Heads Up Poker Tournaments
If you haven’t noticed in the past most of the bigger online poker rooms offer heads-up free poker tournaments where you and one other player battle for the first place prize. You basically get to double your money minus the fee for the tournament, so in a $10+$1 tournament you would make $9 profit if you win. A lot of poker players find that playing in heads-up tournaments is a lot easier then playing in other tournaments due to the fact that you only need to beat one other player. If you decide that you want to give heads-up poker a shot then make sure you use the tips below to help you have the best shot at winning.
* The most important tip I can give you when playing heads-up tournaments is that you need to open up your hand selection and play a lot looser poker. You don’t always need a hand in order to win when you play heads-up and often just betting at the pot will take it down. If you’re scared to bet then your opponent will typically pick up on this quickly and will start stealing pots from you which isn’t good.
* Typically you want to try and take a quick lead when you play heads-up tournaments so that you don’t need to worry about the blinds eating you up if the tournament goes deep. A quick tip in order to take a nice little lead early on is to raise the pot preflop 2-3X and then steal it on the flop. You will be able to pick up several pots of 60-100 chips and be able to take an early lead.
* You need to play your opponent in Full Tilt heads-up matches as much as you play your cards and this is because you can win the pot with nothing. If you sense weakness from your opponent in the pot then you need to be willing to take it down by betting. You should read some articles on picking up online poker tells and so on so that you know exactly what to look for in your opponents.
* When you have the lead and your opponent starts going all-in you need to make sure that you don’t call any hand just to try and win. You should wait until you have a monster hand before you call an all-in from your opponent because the last thing you want to do is double up your opponent.
* Position is very important when you play heads-up on the new NBC Poker site as well because when you get to act last in the hand you will have an advantage. You will be able to see how your opponent acts in the pot before you which will allow you to gain an assumption about what your opponent might have.
* Although playing strong is really important in heads-up matches you need to make sure that you fold your hands when you feel you’re beat. You don’t have enough chips in heads-up matches to start paying off your opponents so make sure if you think you’re beat you fold your hand.
